Has life got you in a tale spin? Single parenthood can lead to an over committed and tapped out lifestyle. That is why it is important to take a parental time out. Research supports that chronic or persistent stress that occurs from divorce, financial strains and deadlines can result in hypertension, migraine headaches, ulcers, and so much more. Almost every system in your body can be damaged by stress.
So what are some steps you can take to minimize your stress? Rate your life change; what meaning do you want to give it? Life is 90% your perception to the actual 10% of events that are truly happening. That is why it is important to take your time when making decisions, pace yourself and not rush because eventually it will all get done anyways. Learn to be compassionate and patient with yourself, it’s ok to get frustrated and make mistakes, life isn’t easy as a single parent. By acknowledging what you can control versus what you can’t, your worries will begin to melt away.
Remember, you are valuable and your kids are only as good as you are. So take some time out to BREATH, exercise, meditate, take a bath, or watch a comedy show. Speaking of comedy, did you know that laughter reduces pain, boosts the immune system, reduces food cravings, relieves depression, and increases your overall performance as a parent? That’s right, you will be a better parent for taking time to yourself. Now it’s time to hit the parenting off button so get out those old Frank Sinatra records and put on your dance shoes, it’s time to prevent aging and take a step back in time.
